Carol Pengshung:
David Douglas High School

Carol Pengshung is a 4.00 GPA student who has lived in Portland, Oregon all her life. She hopes to someday travel throughout Asia to fully experience the rich culture and traditions enrooted there. She is currently a junior at David Douglas High School and enjoys being actively involved in her school and community. Some of her activities include: the Japanese Club, Invisible Children, Key Club International, National Honor Society, Concert Strings Orchestra, and Symphony Orchestra. While devoting a considerable amount of time volunteering at Adventist Medical Center and the Midland library, she also finds time to help out with various other volunteer projects such as neighborhood clean-ups, the Children’s Healing Art Project, and the school districts Kids Closet.

Ever since Carol’s freshman year in high school, she has increasingly developed her leadership abilities and is passionate about leadership. She is currently the Lieutenant Governor for Key Club Division 60/62 and a Team Captain for the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. She has also graduated from the 2008 Civic Engagement and Leadership Training Program.

So far, Carol has attended the Asian American Youth Leadership Conference two times and plans on returning for her third and fourth time this year and next year. As an ambassador, Carol aspires to connect with a wide range of Asian American youth and to inspire them to use their knowledge to lead and serve the community.
