Erik Mauk:
Portland Christian High School

Erik Mauk is a
native Oregonian and a Junior at Portland Christian High School. He is
currently a Junior Class Officer and has been involved in Drama (Fall
Drama and Spring Musical), Concert and Pep Band (Trombone) and Athletics
(Football, Bowling, and Baseball) for the past 5 years. As a honor roll
student and member of the National Honor Society, Erik is currently
enrolled in the Scholars Diploma program at PCHS, is taking honors and
AP courses, and has completed 1 college level coursework. Erik speaks
and writes Japanese and aspires to become a Doctor. Last summer he was
selected to attend the National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine at
UCLA where he acquired various leadership skills and qualities. (www.nylf.org)
Erik has been actively involved for the past 8 years as the Youth Teen
Coordinator for the Northwest Korean Culture Society (www.nkcs.org)
He is proud of his Asian American heritage of Korean, Irish, German and
Cherokee Indian history. He learned and experienced his native culture
when he and his family went to Seoul, Korea, in 2004, to attend the 2nd
Annual Korean Adoptee Gathering, which his Mother, Jane Olson Mauk (AALYC
Planning committee member and facilitator) attended as a First Wave
Korean Adoptee.
This will be Erik’s first year at AAYLC and the first year for Portland
Christian High School to be represented. Erik has been instrumental in
coordinating attendance from both the PC students and the International
Student Program attendees as their Ambassador.
When not studying Erik’s hobbies include solving various difficulties of
rubik’s cubes, playing paintball, Dance Dance Revolution, snow skiing,
reading novels, going to movies, swimming, hiking, bowling, and fishing
with his Dad.
