Paul Van Mai

Paul Van Mai was born
in Saigon, Vietnam and his family immigrated to the United States of America in
1975 when he was 5 years old. Paul is the oldest out of six children in
his family and has been involved with many non-profits, charities,
volunteer works and leadership roles since his college days in the early
1990's to present day.
In 1992, because of his roles as the president and founder of the
International Student Club, student government vice-chair, Vietnamese
Student Association president, multi-ethnic
student center peer counselor, Dr. Dan Moriarty mentee (PCC president, 1986 to 2001) and assigned student representative for PCC's
Affirmative Action committee and his commitment to academic
achievements; Paul was chosen as Portland Community College Sylvania
campus All-Star Scholar of the Year. That year, he and 18 other
community college students from across Oregon arrived in Salem and were
recognized by Gov. Barbara Roberts for their academic excellence.

He has been involved with AAYLC since 1992 as the first Keynote Speaker and
in 1993
as Master of Ceremonies, but left to pursue his higher education, career
goals and other community activities. He was brought back to AAYLC in
2003 and now serves as Chairman for the past several years. He is committed
to helping the Asian American youths realize their full potential,
believe in themselves and inspire them to achieve. For 2007-08, he is also
responsible for College Fair.
Paul is currently a Software Product Manager at LaCie Limited in
Hillsboro, Oregon and has worked there since 1998. He completed his
Bachelor's degree in Business Administrator with the emphasis in
Marketing and minor in Sociology at Portland State University in 1996.
He graduated from North Shore High School in Houston, Texas.
